Het zijn de meest mysterieuze - en angstaanjagende - objecten in het universum: zwarte gaten. Ruim honderd jaar geleden werd hun bestaan voor het eerst voorspeld, maar nog steeds zijn ze omgeven door raadsels. Wat is een zwart gat? Hoe ontstaat het? Wat gebeurt er als je erin zou vallen? En kun je met behulp van een zwart gat een reis door de tijd maken? In het voorjaar van 2019 slaagden sterrenkundigen er voor het eerst in om een zwart gat 'op de foto te zetten', en de hoop is dat ze hun geheimen in de komende jaren steeds meer prijs zullen geven.

A range of countries, from China, Russia, Iran, France and Israel to North Korea stand out as very capable and active cyber actors tied to economic espionage, theft of trade secrets and proprietary information. But also ever popular are campaigns to influence elections, disrupt critical infrastructure and gather personally identifiable information the wider public, including you. What kind of new vulnerabilities from next-generation technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence and the Internet-of-Things will be introduced to the networks in the coming decade? Is a completely bulletproof system a digital illusion?

Greta Thunberg, UN, Trump, Jeff Bezos’s divorce, Brexit: our world is getting more unequal by the minute, our global economy is fundamentally unstable, the EU is experiencing an identity crisis, and the US is supervised by the Trump-team. Simultaneously, we are approaching the boundaries of the safe operating space of our planet (e.g. global warming and biodiversity loss) and are not on track with meeting the UN SDG's. This calls for an urgent transformation. Do we need a new Green Deal to safeguard sustainability? Can Circular Economy, collaborative consumption, green business innovation, Smart Cities, disruptive change and bottom-up democracy provide the solutions to problems of overconsumption and resource scarcity?

Robots en AI betekenen een grote revolutie voor business, de samenleving en ons persoonlijke leven. Google Maps, Siri, Netflix: AI is overal en steeds vaker worden computers ingezet voor het nemen van beslissingen of het uitvoeren van taken. Maar hoe slim is AI? Vervangt de robot de mens? Hoe kan de technologie als menselijk worden ervaren in plaats van dat ze vaak onhandig is of je niet snapt? Welke verbeteringen zullen het komende decennium optreden in voorspellende robots en andere technologieën, waardoor integratie van deep learning algorithms mogelijk gemaakt wordt in alle facetten van ons dagelijks bestaan? En hoe komen design en technologie samen?
