Since the Third Revolution new organisations and structures emerge in cyberspace that real space would never allow. Imagine an online global platform such as Facebook without any authority: decentralized, peer-to-peer networks that are run and owned by the community. Organizations cleansed of managers and free from bureaucratic power: a future scenario? No, such networks already exist; Bitcoin and the internet itself are just two examples. New questions arise: what happens when everything is connected and nobody is in charge? What are the possibilities and implications of such distributed networks?

We live in times of unprecedented change, accelerating at an exponential pace. Why all of a sudden are there companies such as Spotify, Uber of AirbnB? How big is the market of apps? Many trends and developments come together in a concept called the WEconomy. It shows how many seemingly unconnected movements are paving the way to a new economy that is sustainable and circular in nature. On the way we will witness many disruptive innovations changing amongst others the film, music, mobility and production sector. It all drills down to being able to surf on the waves of time called transformation and transition.

Apple vond niet de smartphone uit en Google was niet de eerste zoekmachine; vaak zijn innovaties het herordenen van bestaande. Als je wilt innoveren, zal je eerst de technologische ontwikkelingen in de wereld om je heen helder voor ogen moeten hebben. Wat gebeurt er als zelfrijdende auto’s geïntroduceerd worden in het straatbeeld? Stel dat computers beter kunnen analyseren dan mensen? Wat gebeurt er met fabrieken als we straks gebruiksvoorwerpen zelf kunnen printen? Rens de Jong zoomt in op deze en andere belangrijke innovatieve trends en nieuwsfeiten en stelt zichzelf de vraag: wat kun jij hier nou mee?
